Overview
A former local government region in eastern central Scotland; it was bounded by the Firth of Forth in the north and the North Sea in the east. It was divided in 1996 into the unitary authorities of Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian, and Edinburgh. The area produces wheat, oats, potatoes, livestock, and whiskey. Population is concentrated in Edinburgh, Leith, and Livingston cities.
