Limerick

County Limerick in the southwestern Irish province of Munster covers some 1037 square miles, consisting of rolling hills, glacial drifts, and large areas of rich pasture land. It is noted for ruins of prehistoric monuments, round towers, and monasteries. Farming is important, particularly of livestock, including cattle, pigs, and sheep. The county is famous for its fine and abundant dairy products. Other economic activities include the manufacture of automotive parts and office equipment, bacon curing, and the fairs held in the small towns. The 2003 estimated population was 177,300.
