Overview
On the estuary of the River Glaven. In the 14th century it was a predominant port for the export of corn and wool to the Low Countries. Village also earlier known for its lawless independence: there are documented cases of piracy and the village refused to supply a ship to fight the Spanish Armada. The harbor filled with silt after an embankment was built across the River Glaven in 1637. Blakeney became fashionable in the 20th century as a summer destination. Near the quay is the 14th-century Guildhall. The east tower of Blakeney's parish church once held a lantern that guided sailors to Blakeney Haven.
