Dunfermline

Situated inland from Firth of Forth; settled by Celtic monks, town grew around Benedictine Abbey (1072); abbey served as a parish church until 1821; city recovered from fire of 1624 & has become textile center; birthplace of millionaire Andrew Carnegie.
