Hoorn

Located on Ijssel lake, named for its horn-shaped harbor. Capital of medieval West Frieslandand was one of principal ports of Netherlands until the Zuiderzee silted up in 18th century. Joined up with William of Orange at the begining of the Eighty Years War. Noted for manufacture of first great net for herring fishing in 1416.
