Overview
Fyn is the third largest island in Denmark, measuring some 1153 square miles in area. It is located in the Baltic Sea between Zealand and southern Jutland. It was long a stronghold for the Danish aristocracy, and features many castles and manor houses. From antiquity it has Stone Age and Viking burial sites. The land is very fertile and agricultural products include grains, sugar beets, dairy farming, and cattle breeding, giving rise to the island's nickname if "Garden of Denmark," The 2004 estimated population was 472,200.
