Bordered by Greater London to the west, the River Thames and county of Kent to the south, and Essex county to the north and east; administrative area since the mid-19th century; became borough council in 1974 and since April of 1998 it has been a unitary authority; administered by the Thurrock Council, prior to 1998 most services run by Essex County Council; other places may belong below.
