Overview
Succeeded Nimrud as the Assyrian capital. It was made into a spectacular center by Sennacherib and developed into cultural center by Ashurbanipal in the 7th century BCE. A large library of cuneiform tablets was here. The city fell to Nabopolassar of Babylon in 612 BCE.
