West Indies

Comprises groups of over 1200 islands located between SE North America & N South America, separating Caribbean Sea from Atlantic Ocean; most of the islands are volcanic or coral; most formerly were colonies of Britain, the Netherlands, Spain or France; it generally includes the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, & the Bahama Islands.
