item details
Overview
This is a titi (drumstick) used in the playing of pate or tokere (slit drum) from the Cook Islands. There are six drums in the tini ka'ara (drum ensemble) - two skin-covered drums, and four wooden slit drums. Drummers will usually use two titi each, except if they are playing one of the larger skin-covered drums.
Acquisition history
This titi is one of a selection of items that had accumulated in Government House, Wellington, over many years. It was gifted to Te Papa in 1997.
