Overview
This silver medallion in its original case is associated with Lord Ranfurly (Governor-General) and Sir James Carroll (Minister of Native Affairs) and is an important record of a hui held at Ruatoki in March 1904, possibly to farewell Ranfurly at the end of his term as Governor.
Obverse: with the Arms of the Ranfurly family and the legend: 'RUATOKI / March 16, 1904 / Ranfurly / GOVERNOR / 1897 to 1904'.
Reverse: 'HON. JAMES CARROLL / Hei / whakamaharatanga / ki te Hui nui / Na te tahi hoa / pono o te / Iwi Maori'. Stamped with 'C.W./i'.
