Overview
This jockey's outfit was worn by A. Lyford, the rider of Macaroni, the winner of the first Great Northern Steeplechase held at Ellerslie racecourse Auckland in June 1885.
Macaroni was owned by Mr William Profiitt,
About 2000 people attended the meeting and the weather on the day was described in the New Zealand herald as 'all that could be desired - bright, dry, and bracing' (8 June 1885, p. 6).
The course was about 3 1/2 miles and was run in 9 minutes and 19 seconds.
