This material appears to have been gathered by the Dominion Museum from a number of different internal and external sources and is arranged by subject. Within each category there is a considerable variation in format and type including lithographs, original watercolour, oil paintings (some framed), photographic prints, sketches, etc. It is currently not known when this collection was pulled together, though given its content it is assumed to have been some time ago. In recent times material relating to the arts and history has been removed and added to other collections. Miscellaneous subject categories include ships, geology, Museums, botany, animals, mammals, birds, reptiles and fishes.
