Overview
James Hector was appointed a commissioner in the Royal Commission to secure New Zealand representation at the 1876 Philadelphia exhibition (the other commissioners were W.B.D. Mantell, W. Gisborne, W.H. Levin and D. McIntyre).
Hector was involved in the process to select items to be sent to the New Zealand Court (in Philadelphia) and generally managing the organisation of New Zealand's involvement in the exhibition.
A detailed explanation as to the Exhibition was published in the Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives (AJHR's) during 1877 (namely AJHR 1877 H-23).
