Overview
This wedding outfit was worn by Sarah Durrad (nee Stephens) when she got married in Islington, London in 1872. The outfit consists of a three piece dress, a parasol, a pair of pure silk stockings and pair of cream kid-leather ankle boots.
The dress is mainly hand-stitched and made of a cream cannelle weave silk. It has a fitted bodice, a wide low neckline and short sleeves. It opens down the front with silver brass hooks and tiny eyelet holes, and is lined with white glazed cotton. The sleeves and neckline have edges of Valenciennes lace. The back of the skirt was held in position with a bustle typical of 1870s fashion.
