Overview
Plate 54 of 112 from Owen Jones' The Grammar of Ornament (1868). The coloured illustration shows an ornamental floral design from India, painted on the inside of a book cover.
Jones describes it as influenced by the Persian decorative style, and writes: "On the inside of the same cover, Plate LIV., the ornaments are less conventional in their treatment; but how charmingly is observed the limit of the treatment of flowers on a flat surface!"
