Overview
Items relating to the creation, marketing and distribution/sale of the fashion collection. The following text is drawn from items in the file: The new Summer 2003 collection, Colonial, is a collection that draws its inspiration from the early days of antipodean life, and is based around a cross-cultural colonial look. There is a strong use of natural fibres and colours, highlighted with white. Key features include pintucking, heavy stitching and a home-sewn embroidered finish. Theme pieces are the sacking and plantation skirts, denim culottes and schooner minis. Starfish 2003 Summer Collection, Colonial, was inspired by the early days of antipodean life. The first colonists to Australia and New Zealand brought with them, traded and found a rich variety of styles. Over time these have developed further and the result is our very own cross-cultural colonial look. Combinations are crisp Victorian blouses with sailor’s drawstring linen pants, imperial lace tops with gathered natural plantation skirts, starched schooner pants softened with empire line blouses, body hugging wrapped knits teamed with gentlemen’s trousers. Garments are embellished with traditional touches of handcrafted embroidery, and all have been put together with a touch of native styling. The silhouette is about movement, created by billowy blouses and empire line tops. Gathered or bias skirts are held in by a string and hang from the hip. Pants have a masculine fit with a slight flare in the leg. Culottes enter the collection as worn by the first horse and bicycle-riding women.
The fashion collection includes: Starfish Tee, Colonial Skirt, Dexter Ribbon and Stripe and Denim, Industry Denim and Linen Short, Industry Pant Denim and Linen, Canvas Jacket and Pant.
