Overview
Background
This pulou (hat) was made by Moe Vavega in Tokelau in 2012.
Construction
The pulou is made from pandanus leaf. A selection of the woven strips have been dyed blue and green. The centre of the crown has what appears to be a clam shell, with gold glitter smeared on top. A hatband sits on the hat, made from a circular row of blue, green and and natural coloured flowers.
Acquisition History
This object was purchased by Te Papa Pacific Cultures staff at the 2013 Pasifika Festival held in Auckland City, New Zealand.
