Overview
This photograph shows women dressed in costumes representing parts of the British Empire: India, Canada, Britannia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Mollie Rodie designed the costumes. Pageants and queen carnivals were popular ways to raise money during the Second World War (1939-45).
The photograph was taken at either the fundraising Red Cross Pageant held in September 1940 and/or the Victory Queen Carnival grand finale held in June 1941. Both events were held in the Wellington Town Hall.
