Overview
This photograph features the arrival of the Queen of Hutt Valley, Mrs E.T.W. Rio Love and her pages (her oldest daughter Mokoroa Rio Love and younger daughter Ina (Inanui) Rio Love).
On the back of the photograph is inscribed: 'Mrs Love & her pages....receive a standing ovation as they enter the Town Hall to pay homage to Queen Joan'. Queen Joan was the Queen of Victory at the Victory Queen Carnival grand finale held in Wellington Town Hall in June 1941. Mrs Love's costume was designed by Mollie Rodie.
Pageants and queen carnivals were popular ways to raise money during the Second World War (1939-45).
