Overview
This 'Grab & Go' emergency kit contains practical supplies for at least one person to help them survive in the event of an earthquake, including a torch which can charge mobile phones, lightsticks, face masks, a poncho, drink bottles, water purifying tablets, gloves, neon vest, first aid kit, plastic bags for medical waste, emergency blanket, pocket knife, whistle and compass, matches. A pack of playing cards is also included.
The bag (and some of the contents) are in the colours of the Canterbury province - red and black - making the kit a tribute to the people of Canterbury who experienced devastating earthquakes on 4 September 2010 and 22 February 2011. After these events, people all over New Zealand were encouraged to create emergency kits which could be grabbed at a moment's notice. This is a commercial kit endorsed by Civil Defence, and this particular bag was sold through Wellington City Council.
