Overview
The New Zealand Veterinary Corps was formed in 1907. During the First World War, members cared for almost 10,000 horses transported by ship to war zones, with a loss of only 3 percent en route.
Members of the Corps looked after horses that pulled field guns into position, mules that carried supplies, and donkeys that transported wounded men.
The Corp's badge features a Crown, symbolising loyalty to the monarch and a wreath of fern leaves symbolising New Zealand. The central monogram 'NZVC' signifies the New Zealand Veterinary Corps.
The design of this badge was approved by Lt.-General Godley on 18 July 1911.
