Overview
Malcolm Mason wrote this book after travelling to Japan in the early 1960s. His first trip was to accompany his wife, potter Helen Mason, who was invited to attend the first World Design Conference (WoDeCo), held in Tokyo, Japan, 1960.
During the Second World War, Mason had been a prisoner of war in Italy. He had misgivings about the Japanese after their treatment of his friends and relatives during the war. However, his first trip was such a success, that he returned again, and wrote this guidebook for Australians and New Zealanders.
