Influences and ancestors: Material concerns

By the 1980s, many jewellers, Māori and non-Māori alike, were exploring local materials. Rather than set these materials in silver or gold, they made them the focus. They also explored Māori and Pacific forms, paring back already abstract motifs to give a sense of the contemporary.
