Overview
This is a jigsaw puzzle for a young child. It is made from square blocks printed with six different children's fairy stories, including some of the most famous and enduring: Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids.
Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Puss in Boots were written in the 1690s by the French author Charles Perrault. Cinderella's origins are Greek and date back two thousand years. The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids was written by the German brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in 1812.
This jigsaw puzzle was a gift for Judith Scott (born 1932) and was probably bought from the D.I.C. Toy Department in Wellington (Judith's mother was the China Buyer for D.I.C. until the mid 1930s). Judith says, “I always had to treat this type of present with great care. They were a pretty good sort of toy in the early and mid-1930s.”
