Overview
In 2002 the 'Changing Spaces' exhibition was held as part of the visual arts programme of the New Zealand International Arts Festival. The project, which involved a series of temporary sculptural installations around central Wellington, was organised by Jenny Neligan and Sue Elliot. The two curators commissioned 14 artists to develop works in response to specific sites. The artists included Christopher Braddock, Bekah Carran, Chiara Corbelletto, Paul Dibble, Scott Eady, Leon van den Eijkel, John Lyall, Gregor Kregar, Peter Nicholls, Phil Price, Louise Purvis, Pauline Rhodes, Caroline Rothwell and Jeff Thomson.
The 'Changing Spaces' exhibition archive includes correspondence, artist's proposals, contracts, budget info, permit negotiations, with the Wellington city council and other material. It also includes several copies of the 'Changing Spaces' publication and maps showing a 'sculptural trail' on inner city Wellington. This archive includes some photographic documentation of the works by David Lewis, but excludes the photography undertaken by Bruce Foster for the accompanying catalogue.
