Wooden toys like this, made by several different manufacturers both in New Zealand and from overseas, have been popular since their first appearance in the 1940s. Similar versions of this type of wooden toy continue to be in production and are still available in New Zealand today.
The stackable discs or blocks give this toy an educational purpose. Blocks are known to promote hand-eye co-ordination in young children. They can also be used for construction and demolition and well as for learning about shapes, colour and patterns.
