Overview
This is the programme for the funeral service for Ernie Abbott, the caretaker at the Trades Hall in Wellington, who was killed instantly on 27 March 1984 when he moved a booby-trapped suitcase.
Initially, police thought the motive centred on a bus strike the previous day. Trades Hall was a union building, so it was suspected the bomb was aimed at a unionist. However, despite lengthy police investigations, the crime remains unsolved, and is one of New Zealand's most notorious crimes.
