Overview
Doris de Pont is an internationally recognised clothing designer who designed clothes for more than 20 years. Whilst living in in the Netherlands between 1977 and 1984, Doris de Pont designed clothes as part of a Women’s Fashion Collective in The Hague. On returning to New Zealand in 1985, de Pont opened a retail store in Auckland, selling her Doris de Pont label. From 1989 to 1994, de Pont worked as a freelance designer. As a freelance designer she began working with specialist textile designers, resulting in commissions including cabin crew uniforms for Niue Airlines and uniforms for the New Zealand team to the1993 Gay Games in New York.
In 1994 de Pont began the DNA label in association with designer Adrienne Foote. DNA enjoyed successful shows at Mercedes Australian Fashion Week and L’Oreal New Zealand Fashion Week in 2003. At New Zealand Fashion Week in 2003 de Pont relaunched under the Doris de Pont label to critical media and buyer acclaim.
The 'Cross my heart' collection of Summer 2007-2008 was Doris de Pont’s final collection as a fashion designer.
