Overview
In After Tandberg, before Abbott, Nicholas Mangan reworks a drawing by Australian political cartoonist Ron Tandberg. In doing so, he questions the Australian Government’s policy on the Pacific island of Nauru.
From 2001, Australia provided much-needed aid to the people of Nauru. In exchange, it used the island as an offshore immigration detention centre. The centre closed in 2007 but five years later, the Australian Government made a controversial decision to reopen it. The initiative was led by politician Tony Abbott.
