Overview
The file classification system was established by the Records Management consultant Miranda Welch who identified the introduction of the new system as a necessary prerequisite to the development of modern information management within the Museum.
The system aimed to include all parts of the Museum's activities excluding the actual Waterfront Building Project "pre-move" preparation but in fact did not include many of the Natural Environment parts of the Museum (located at Taranaki Street) that were scheduled for transfer to the Waterfront Building.
It should be noted that parts of this file system are still being used and the creation of this archive series (while part of the system is open) is required to facilitate the identification and processing of core archival information created prior to opening in February 1998.
