Overview
This small photograph album which belonged to Jean Hannan, a Scottish woman who worked in New Zealand as a ladies' maid for Mrs Ella Elgar during the 1930s and early 1940s. The thirty six snapshots in the album depict Jean and friends, as well as the Elgars and their home Fernside near Featherston. There are several photographs of New Zealand soldiers, either as portraits, or during training. Most of the photographs appear to date from the mid 1930s to the mid 1940s, although a few appear to be earlier. Photographs which were taken at the same time are scattered through the album, suggesting it was put together near the end of that period. The album has a black cover, with a gold stamp of stylised mountains and the words 'The Cambrian Album'.
