Overview
Tao average between 2.1 and 2.7 m in length. They are usually quite plain in appearance. The sharpened point was usually hardened by fire. The other end is quite blunt. The kawau, or shaft, is thickest near the blunt end, being perhaps 2.5 cm at its widest point. In a few rare examples, a simple carving is evident on the shaft.
