patu pōhatu

To be used for stone patu conforming to Skinner's Type I, Type V, and Type VI patu, for which the original Maori name is not recorded. Examples shown are mostly from Otago and to a lesser extent Canterbury. Type I is also known from near Nelson and from Kaitaia. Examples 11.10, 11.11, 11.12, 11.14, and 11.16 of Skinner's Type I patu and examples 11.48 and 11.51 of Type V patu could be called patu pōhatu, as could examples 11.60, 11.61, 11.62, and 11.63 of Skinner's Type VI
