Overview
Typically a flat carved head fixed to the front apex of the house in front of the vertical join of the two barge boards. Carved with large, round, owl-like eyes. Kōruru have a deep vertical flange on the back with a horizontal hole. This flange passed through an opening in the maihi with the hole portion projecting behind. A wooden pin was driven through this hole to hold the kōruru in position
