Use for braided cords, worn around the shoulder on military uniforms, awarded as an honorary decoration. Also, similar cords adopted as trim on women's garments. Distinguished from "aiguillettes (cords)," which are usually braided, end in aglets, and are worn especially by aides-de-camp and sometimes other military officers.
