Use for that category of the humanities dealing with the written and oral verbal works of a nation, region, period, or language, of a particular group or individual, of a particular form or genre, on a particular subject, or for a particular audience. For the body of written works on a particular subject, use "literature (writings)." For the written works of a particular individual or group of individuals, use "writings."
