Wood of the tree belonging to the genus Acer pseudoplatanus, native to central Europe and western Asia, but introduced into Britain from the Continent in the 15th century. It is white to yellowish-white in color, and is used in the manufacture of turnery, bobbins, brush handles, and decorative veneer.
