Classic Māori

Classic Maori describes a woodcarving style of the Maori people; the original inhabitants of New Zealand. The Classic Maori style is characterized as having a defined sculptural form whose surface is engraved with elaborate designs; this style is dated to around the beginning of the 16th century.
