Overview
Wood of the tree belonging to the species Hibiscus elatus, native to Jamaica and Cuba, but has been widely planted and naturalized from Florida to Trinidad and Tobago, and on the continent from Mexico to Peru and Brazil. The sapwood is almost white and the heartwood is greyish-brown to olive in color. It is used in the manufacture of furniture and cabinetry, and for inlay work, as the freshly polished wood has the appearance of marble.
