Overview
In bookbinding, labels made of paper or other material, other than leather, different from the book cover material, bearing the book title, often the author(s) name, and sometimes also date and publisher, afixed to the spine or front board. Sometimes such labels were printed on otherwise blank leaves, typically in vertical format, and bound into the book, so that book owners could cut them out and use them. For similar labels made from leather, use "lettering pieces."
