pastel (material)

General term for various combinations of ground, powdery pigment and aqueous binder that are used in drawing and dry painting, delivered via a crayon or stick. Pastel as a material is soft and blendable. For the crayons or sticks containing the pigment and binder, use "pastels (crayons)."
