Overview
In his talk, recorded at Te Papa on Saturday 1 February 2014, artist Darryn George discussed his art practice dubbed ‘Māori abstraction’ – a unique synthesis of Western abstract art and Māori forms. He also explores his sense of spirituality through his art. In the recording he discusses work from his ‘Matapihi’ series, work made in response to the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and the influence on his work by Colin McCahon and Gordon Walters and by international abstract artists such as Barnett Newman.
