Te Papa's Collected Archives on Collections Online

Topic

Overview

The Collected Archives span a considerable breadth, and fall into two main groups. The first features New Zealand artists, such as Lois White, Leonard Mitchell etc. and a number of key New Zealand commercial art galleries.

A highlight in this group are the unpublished autobiographical manuscripts of the renowned New Zealand artist Sir Tosswill Woollaston.

The second group embraces a wide variety of other collected archival material including World War I ephemera (such as battle plans and correspondence) as well as documents left by important historical figures.

Highlights from this collection include the Felton Mathew Diary - New Zealand’s first Surveyor General and an eyewitness to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi - and the diary of a soldier who served in Gallipoli during World War I.

To date we have released all our Collected Archive series records (929 in total) to Collections Online.

The series record gives a good indication of the material held in the Archive; however it is not yet possible to release the related object records. If you have an enquiry regarding a particular series please contact us.
