Overview
Kerry Ann Lee's installation, Return to Skyland, 2018 has been produced in response to the exhibition, Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality (15 December 2018 - 22 April 2019). The New Zealand artist used images of 62 Chinese objects from Te Papa's collection in her video work, Distant resonance, 2018, which features as part of the installation. The video also includes found images and lines from the poem Looking over Sian at night, 1954, by Rewi Alley, a New Zealand writer who lived in China for 60 years.
Kerry Ann Lee is a Wellington based multi-media artist and designer. Her practice explores cultural intersections, public and private spaces, and the issues of Cantonese Chinese settlement in New Zealand and the Pacific region. While playful and engaging, her work interrogates issues of identity and place, and the use and dissemination of cultural forms.
