Dress

This dress was a product of the fashion boutique 'Marée de Maru' which was opened by Croatian-born fashion designer Vinka Lucas in Hamilton in the mid 1960s. Her designs had acquired national reknown by the 1970s, and in the following years she added the labels 'Vinka Lukas After Five', 'Vinca Lucas Couture' and 'Vinca Brides'.

Lucas often used ostentatious materials: sequins, crystals and imported fabrics that made her gowns popular choices for beauty pageants and weddings. This particular example marries a typical 1960s silhouette with a decorative, high-quality fabric characteristic of Vinka Lucas' designs.
