Overview
This embroidery by Ida Downard (1913-2006) commemorates the 25th year of the reign of King George V and Queen Mary (the Silver Jubilee), one year before his death in 1936.
This souvenir sampler was pre-printed for embroiderers, and is an excellent example of patriotic handicraft. Red thread indicates members of the British Empire. The design also features the latest technologies and communication systems with aeroplanes, powered ships and a radio mast for broadcasting to the world.
