Overview
This is pareo or pareu (wrap around) is a garment worn by men and women as a skirt or body wrapping. It can be worn and tied up in a variety of ways and is a popular form of clothing in the Cook Islands and Society Islands.
Label Qualite Tahiti
This pareu comprises a large piece of white fabric decorated with screen printed spiral motifs. It is hemmed down two sides and has a label that says "Label Qualite Tahiti 1958, Tahiti Art Maohi".
Acqusition History
This pareu was acquired by Te Papa in 2008 from Mi'i Quarter, a recognised designer/crafts woman within the Cook Islands community in Rarotonga, New Zealand and abroad.
