Overview
This souvenir programme was created for the Victory Queen Carnival grand finale held in Wellington on 3-5 June 1941. The Carnival was a three-night extravaganza in the Town Hall which entralled guests with a ‘Coronation Ceremony’, a ‘Pageant of Empire’, and a procession of ‘Queens of England’ and their ladies-in-waiting.
Queen carnivals were popular community events to raise money during the Second World War (1939-45). Women competed to raise the most money for patriotic causes, and the winner was crowned queen.
