Overview
Philemon Toleafoa is here depicted after a training session at the Montpellier rugby club in France where he had played for the previous six years. The photograph comes from Amituanai's 'Déjeuner' series, after the French word for lunch. Toleafoa remarked that the big thing he missed in France was Sunday togai (lunch) at his grandmother's home. But within an art historical context this title also recalls the famous painting by French artist Édouard Manet titled Déjeuner sur l'herbe (Luncheon on the grass) of 1862-63.
